Bayelsa Police Apprehend Suspected Killer of Estate Agent
The suspect, identified as George Idumangi, reportedly claimed to be a member of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) Worldwide. According to sources, Idumangi made this assertion following his arrest by the Bayelsa State Police Command in connection with the killing of a local estate agent. His alleged affiliation with the IYC has sparked concern and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the crime, although the organization has yet to issue an official statement regarding his claims.
The police investigation was reactivated after Ekpebu’s family petitioned over the alleged delay in the case.
State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Francis Idu, subsequently transferred the case to Operation Puff Adder, led by Chris Nwaogbo.
Police sources have confirmed that the investigation and manhunt for the suspected killer led operatives of the Bayelsa State Police Command’s Operation Puff Adder Tactical Squad on an intensive one-week operation across several locations in Lagos State. The squad reportedly tracked the suspect from Yenagoa to multiple parts of Lagos, including Lekki, Ikorodu, Festac, Ikeja, and Orile. The painstaking efforts of the operatives ultimately resulted in the arrest of the suspect, who had been on the run since the incident.
However, it was learned that the operatives in eight days arrested the girl friend to the alleged killer and recovered one pump action gun, five live cartridges, two empty AK 47 magazines, 10 walkie talkies, 10 chargers and three AK-47 rifle slings in her custody in Yenagoa.
Preliminary investigations have revealed a disturbing twist in the case. According to gathered information, the deceased estate agent was initially contacted by the suspect’s girlfriend, who claimed there was a parcel of land available for sale. Acting on this lead, the estate agent facilitated a meeting between the suspect, George Idumangi, and a potential buyer.
Further findings indicate that the buyer subsequently paid the sum of N9 million directly to the suspect, believing the transaction to be legitimate. However, after the payment was made, the estate agent reportedly began to question the authenticity of the deal — a move that may have led to his untimely death. The suspect, now in custody, is said to be assisting the police with ongoing investigations.
