A TIME FOR COLLECTIVE RIGHT DECISIONS AND ACTION
The office of the President is expected to remain in the Southern region of the country from 2023 to 2031. The South-West is currently serving the first four years under the APC administration. It is believed that the next four years, beginning from 2027, should provide an opportunity for the South-East under the NDC.
Thereafter, the office would return to the Northern region for the next eight years. Any move against this arrangement would be unfair to the principles of democracy and equity.
In pursuit of this objective, stakeholders in the South-East have agreed on the following resolutions:
To work towards bringing members of other opposition parties together under the platform of the NDC, believing that such unity is both possible and necessary.
To encourage capable members of the party to assist in securing offices in their various wards and local government areas. This will help establish the presence of the party in every community and provide venues for regular meetings, sensitization programmes, and registration of new members.
To encourage South-East members occupying various positions within the NDC to reach out to other political zones for meaningful negotiations and cooperation. The Northern region has shown readiness to support the NDC, and such goodwill should be strengthened through continuous engagement.
To encourage genuine members of the NDC in the South-East to participate in INEC training programmes, thereby preparing them to contribute effectively during the 2027 general elections.
To advise those working against the progress of the NDC in the South-East to reconsider their actions and uphold the principles of fairness and democracy.
To urge all stakeholders of the NDC in the South-East to intensify grassroots mobilization through door-to-door, house-to-house, compound-to-compound, village-to-village, club-to-club, and organization-to-organization campaigns.
To promote the exchange of ideas and collaboration among neighbouring states in advancing the growth and development of the NDC in the South-East.
To appeal to Nigerians in the Diaspora to support the growth of this emerging political party and contribute to its success in future elections.
To avoid unnecessary distractions and remain focused on the task of building a strong, united, and progressive party capable of meeting the aspirations of Nigerians.
This is a time for collective right decisions and actions. Unity, fairness, strategic engagement, and commitment at all levels are essential if the NDC is to achieve its objectives and provide Nigerians with a credible alternative for national development.
