WHAT NEXT?

The question is: How prepared is the NDC Party for this crucial stage?

Millions of ordinary Nigerians are looking to the NDC with great expectations, believing it can offer a genuine Rescue Mission for the country. However, elections are not won by popularity alone. They are won through strong grassroots organization, effective coordination, and committed party members at the Ward and Local Government Area (LGA) levels.

For the NDC to succeed, it must build and strengthen its structures across the country. In many states, the party’s grassroots structures are still not strong enough to support an effective campaign. There are also misunderstandings among some leaders at the local level. If these issues are not resolved quickly, they could affect the smooth takeoff of the campaign.

The earlier the National Working Committee (NWC) addresses these challenges, the better. Unity, discipline, and cooperation are essential if the party is to maximize its chances of success.

As the campaign progresses, NWC members will be expected to mobilize support and deliver results in their respective LGAs and wards. If local structures remain weak or divided, it will become difficult for even the most committed party leaders to work effectively in their communities.

Another important concern is the absence of visible party offices in many states. A physical office serves as a center for coordination, communication, membership activities, and public identification. State chairmen should work with party candidates and stakeholders to establish functional offices and build vibrant party structures throughout their states.

This is a golden opportunity that should not be wasted.

Many Nigerians are eager for change, and many supporters are prepared to vote for the NDC presidential ticket of Mr. Peter Gregory Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. A strong presidential performance could also improve the party’s chances in governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly elections.

The experience in Abia State during the 2023 elections showed how strong voter support for Mr. Peter Gregory Obi contributed to the success of candidates from his then political platform, including the election of the current governor. Many Abians are willing to support a party they believe can deliver good leadership again. However, that support must be matched with a sincere, united, and well-organized party structure.

The time to prepare is now. A united party, a functional grassroots structure, and effective coordination will determine whether the NDC can turn public support into electoral victory.
