Sir. Maduakolam Kenneth Adighibe IJERE, Chairman-elect, South-East Political Influence Organization, Calls for Peaceful Elections and Protection of the People’s Will
ABIA STATE — Sir. Maduakolam Kenneth Adighibe IJERE, Chairman-elect of the South-East Political Influence Organization, has called on Nigerians to embrace peaceful democratic participation and reject intimidation, electoral manipulation and violence ahead of the 16 January 2027 election.
Speaking on the political situation in the country, Adighibe referenced the biblical admonition, “Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm,” stressing that political differences should not become a reason for threats, harassment or violence.
According to him, Nigeria is at a critical crossroads, with millions of citizens still facing insecurity, unemployment, poverty, displacement and economic hardship despite the country’s abundant resources.
He said supporters of former Anambra State Governor Peter Gregory Obi see him as a symbol of hope, competence, accountability and a possible new direction for Nigeria.
Adighibe also referred to the biblical charge, “Peter, if you love Me, feed My sheep,” using it to emphasize the need for leadership that protects vulnerable citizens, creates opportunities for young people, strengthens the economy and restores confidence in government.
He said the proposed political partnership between Peter Gregory Obi and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso is viewed by their supporters as an opportunity to pursue economic repositioning, improved security and stronger national development.
However, the South-East political leader emphasized that any political change must be achieved through the ballot box and not through intimidation, manipulation or violence.
MESSAGE TO NYSC MEMBERS
Adighibe appealed to members of the National Youth Service Corps who may participate in the electoral process to remain committed to Nigeria and uphold the integrity of their assignments.
He urged them not to allow themselves to be used to manipulate the will of the electorate, noting that their conduct during the election could become part of Nigeria’s democratic history.
MESSAGE TO INEC OFFICIALS
The Chairman-elect also appealed to officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission to discharge their responsibilities with honesty, professionalism and courage.
He urged electoral officials to protect the integrity of the voting process and ensure that results reflect the genuine votes cast by Nigerians rather than manipulation, intimidation or political pressure.
MESSAGE TO SECURITY AGENCIES
Adighibe called on security agencies to remain politically neutral and protect all Nigerians regardless of their political affiliations.
He stressed that security personnel have a responsibility to protect the Constitution, the people and the democratic process, rather than becoming instruments of political intimidation.
CALL TO SOUTH-EASTERNERS
The South-East Political Influence Organization chairman-elect called on people of the South-East to reject vote buying, voter intimidation, electoral violence and every form of manipulation of the democratic process.
He urged voters not to sell their voter cards or their conscience, describing the vote as the people’s voice and a fundamental instrument of democratic power.
According to him, supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso should mobilize peacefully, openly and lawfully, convincing other citizens through facts and legitimate democratic engagement rather than threats.
CALL FOR PRAYER FOR NIGERIA
Adighibe also encouraged Nigerians who believe in the power of prayer to dedicate the last Friday of every month to fasting and prayer for the country, according to their individual faith and circumstances.
He called for prayers for peace before, during and after the election; free, fair and credible elections; protection for voters and electoral officials; wisdom for Nigerians in choosing their leaders; an end to insecurity and banditry; economic opportunities for youths; justice and accountability; and a peaceful transition towards a better Nigeria.
He, however, stressed that prayer should be accompanied by responsible civic action.
“NIGERIA BELONGS TO ALL OF US”
Adighibe maintained that Nigeria is too blessed to remain trapped in poverty, insecurity, corruption and hopelessness.
He called for tolerance among Nigerians with different political opinions, stressing that political disagreement should not destroy the bonds of brotherhood and citizenship.
“If Peter Obi is the choice of the people, let the people freely vote for him. If another candidate is the people’s choice, their votes must equally be respected,” he said.
He emphasized that this, in his view, is the essence of democracy.
Adighibe therefore called on all political actors, voters, security agencies and electoral officials to reject intimidation, manipulation and violence and allow the genuine will of Nigerians to prevail.
He concluded with a strong appeal:
“Touch no one. Harm no one. Intimidate no one. Manipulate no vote. Let God guide Nigeria, and let the people’s genuine choice prevail.”
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
ONE NIGERIA.
ONE PEOPLE.
ONE DESTINY.
LET THE PEOPLE’S WILL PREVAIL
